Forest School
Here at Kingswood Primary School, we are incredibly fortunate to have our own dedicated woodland area within the school grounds. Through our Forest School programme, children have the opportunity to learn in the natural environment, develop an understanding of managed risk and, most importantly, use their initiative to solve problems, work collaboratively and become more independent learners.
Our Forest School sessions are led by Mrs Whitton, our Forest School Teacher. Every class enjoys a Forest School session once each half-term, ensuring that all children have regular opportunities to explore, discover and learn outdoors. Activities vary throughout the year and may include den building, pond dipping, creating bug hotels, nature crafts, fire-lighting skills, environmental investigations and teamwork challenges.
This unique approach to learning helps children develop confidence, resilience and a positive attitude towards learning, while fostering a deeper appreciation of the natural world around them. Forest School continues to be a much-loved part of the curriculum and a wonderful way for our children to grow socially, emotionally and academically in a stimulating outdoor environment.
KINGSWOOD SHETLANDS
We are excited to be partnering with Kingswood Shetlands, based in Caterham-on-the-Hill, to provide a term of weekly sessions for our Year 6 pupils.
These sessions combine animal-assisted and nature-based therapy, giving children the opportunity to work with Shetland ponies in a calm outdoor environment. Through hands-on experiences, pupils develop confidence, resilience, emotional wellbeing and social skills while benefiting from the therapeutic power of nature and animals.
As our partnership develops, we look forward to extending opportunities for the wider school community to benefit from these unique and enriching experiences.
