Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

Kingswood Primary School is part of the Greensand Multi Academy Trust and our governors form the School Committee. The Committee is made up of volunteers, who act as a ‘critical friend’ to the school’s senior leadership. Their role is to support and challenge the school, ensuring we continue to improve and provide the best possible education for all pupils.

The Committee includes representatives from parents, staff and the local community. Its three core strategic functions are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;

  • Engaging with pupils, staff, parents and the wider community so that governors have a deep knowledge of the school and take all views into account.

In practice, this means governors play an active part in school leadership. They attend meetings and school visits, ask questions, offer challenge and support, and ensure decisions are clearly recorded. Governors also take part in training and use their skills to help monitor the School Development Plan.

There are currently 8 governors on the School Committee, with the following structure:

  • 1 Staff Governor (the Headteacher)

  • 6 Co‑opted Governors (usually from the local community, including parents)

All Governors are elected/appointed for four years. We are currently recruiting for 2 parent governors, 1 staff governor and 1 co‑opted governor.

The Governing Body can be contacted either via the school office: info@kingswood.surrey.sch.uk, or via the Clerk, Sally Tam: s.tam@kingswood.surrey.sch.uk. The Chair of Governors, Ken Thompson, can also be contacted directly at: k.thompson.gov@kingswood.surrey.sch.uk
